Latham Christian Academy relies on Christian textbooks as a philosophical distinctive. While New York State offers to provide private schools with copies of the textbooks used in public schools, we have made a different decision.
At LCA, our teachers use textbooks written from a Christian perspective from the ground up in nearly all of our classes. From K-3 through Grade 6, we implement the textbooks and scope and sequence from A Beka Book, a ministry of Pensacola Christian College in Florida. From Grades 7 through 12, we transition to books published by Bob Jones University Press, written by Bob Jones University in South Carolina. We also use some textbooks from Summit Ministries, Positive Action for Christ, and a few secular publishers in some technology fields.
In addition, for some secondary independent study classes as well as a few classes for which we do not have instructors, we use a revolutionary distance learning product called Ignitia, published by Alpha-Omega Publishers. This rigorous and interactive curriculum presents up-to-date material in a user-friendly manner and allows students to move at their own pace as they work independently online in our modern computer lab.
LCA has also partnered with Patrick Henry College Preparatory Academy in Virginia to allow our students to take a wide range of AP classes via an advanced online distance learning program.
Please contact our admissions department if you have any questions about our curriculum or class offerings.
